Richard grew up fishing the spring creeks of central Pennsylvania and honed his fly fishing skills on his boyhood river, Stoney Creek. After graduating from Penn State with a degree in Ecology, he moved to Telluride, Colorado to pursue his career as a guide and outfitter. Richard began guiding on the Gunnison River in 1994 and has logged over 7,000 river miles as a commercial guide. He is a certified river guide, trip leader, and instructor in the state of Colorado and brings 16 years of commercial guiding and outfitting experience to the fishing lodge and guide service of Black Canyon Anglers. As an owner of the company since 1998, he is proud that Black Canyon Anglers is recognized as the largest and most respected outfitter on the Gunnison River with the reputation of being the elite fly fishing company in the canyon. Richard is also an avid whitewater enthusiast and has three trips on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon under his belt. In the winter, Richard spends his time in Telluride skiing with Telluride Helitrax and snowmobiling with Telluride Snowmobile Adventures.
